Contents

Taurrus contains a mixture of Predatory Mites and sawdust. The living organism (predatory mite) kills various species of reptile parasites. It is a proven and effective beneficial insect in the battle against reptile parasite (Ophionyssus natricis), consuming reptile parasites as well as other parasite mite species.Taurrus mite predators are very small and measure less than 1 mm in adult stage. The larvae are white and adults are orange to brown in colour. They are able to live during a few weeks and reproduce in the areas where the find their prey. Despite its small size, the Taurrus predator acts aggressively and is able to attack and kill preys that are 3 to 4 times bigger in size.Taurrus contains predatory mites of the species Cheyletus eruditus. Taurrus is a natural enemy of common reptile parasites such as the snake mite Ophionysus natricis, the blood mite Hirstiella trombidiformes, Taurrus will also work against small parasites on scorpions and spiders such as Pimeliaphilus joshuae. When Taurrus encounters a parasite, it will attack and kill it. The predatory mites maintain themselves very well in any type of terrarium.

Application - bottle

1. Rotate the bottle carefully so that the Taurrus mites are evenly distributed inside.2. Open the bottle and release the Taurrus mites evenly inside the terrarium.3. Mite Booster (optional)

Application - bucket

1. Rotate the bucket carefully so that the Taurrus mites are evenly distributed inside.2. Open the lid and release the Taurrus mites evenly inside the terrarium.3. Mite Booster (optional)
Fill the white cartridge with Taurrus and mount the blue holder on your snakes favourite branch in order to get predatory mites close to the reptile. The predators will exit the tube through the small hole in the end.

Application process

To prevent a new infestation release new predatory mites every 12 weeks and keep cleaning the terrarium regularly.Taurrus predators will clear around 95% of the parasites they encounter within 10 days after being released. They remain active in the vivarium for up to 4 weeks and they will eventually die as they have no more food. You can expect results within 2 to 3 weeks after the first release of Taurrus. If you don’t see expected results or if you have a severe infestation of parasites, we recommend increasing the dosage or frequency of Taurrus releases.Taurrus can be used on a regular basis as a preventative treatment by applying small amounts every 4-5 weeks. Taurrus is 100% safe for your pet and overdosing is not possible.

Dosage

Taurrus can be used to cure or to prevent a snake mite infestation. First determine whether you would need to treat with a curative or preventive dose. In case you spotted one or a few reptile mites preventive use is adviced. In any other case apply the curative dosage. Overdosage in not possible, the more predatory mites you introduce in the habitat of the reptile the faster the parasite infestation will be reduced. The Taurrus M container is generally sufficient for treating a regular sized terrarium. The table shows how many housings can be treated per Taurrus container.

For best results

Use at temperatures between 13 and 45 °C. Do not apply Taurrus simultaneously with insecticides, whitewash, oil baths, diatomaceous earth or other agents that could affect the predatory mites. We recommend allowing at least 2 weeks before using Taurrus if you have used chemicals products. People who are allergic to shellfish and/or house dust mites may have an allergic reaction when using Taurrus. Use of gloves is recommended.

Shelf life

For best results, use the product immediately upon receipt. Taurrus can be stored for 1-2 days in a dark and ventilated place at 12-15 °C.

There are many species of reptile parasites, both mites and ticks of several species are occasionally found on reptiles. These are both small parasites that feed of animals by sucking the blood from the superficial layers of their skin. Ticks are usually only found in wild caught animals as their size and slower life cycle makes them easier to spot and treat. Reptile parasites are transmitters of viruses and bacteria, they suck blood from your reptile which could cause anemia. Infected animals are often agitated, search for scratching surface or lid in water trying to get rid of pests. An infestation with reptile mites can have deadly consequences for reptiles when nothing is done to control the pest.

Mites and other Acari species found in the terrarium:

Snake Mite

The Snake Mite (Ophionyssys natricis) parasite is the most common parasite on reptiles in captivity and despite it's name a threat to various reptile species. Adults are black in color and are probably the ones of greatest concern.

Lizard Mite

Lizard mites (Hirstiella trombidiiformis) are normally red colored and can spread to snakes from lizards. Lizards can also be parasitised by other acari species such as Pterygosoma or Zonurobia which settle themselves under the scale of agama, iguana or gecko species.

Ticks

Although Ticks are not a common threat for captive bread and kept reptiles, various genera of ticks parasitise on reptiles, like mites they suck the blood of the reptile and therefore a nuisance but also a significant vector of diseases. Unlike mites they rarely ingest enough blood to cause aenemia. Ticks are easy to spot with the naked eye and therefore they can often be removed by the keeper before they start feeding.

Symptoms of a Snake Mite infection

1. Restlessness
In early stages of mite infestation the reptile can show unusual restlessness behaviour
2. Digging
Unusual digging activity (snakes).
3. Baths
The snake seeking to immerse itself in water more often than usual.
4. Raised Scales
Scales taking on a raised appearance
5. Low Appetite
The snake seeking to immerse itself in water more often than usual.
6. Condition
As the infestation advances the reptile is rapidly losing good condition

We believe that nature has given us power to control pests in a natural -biological- way. Chemical pesticides are in many cases harmful for humans, animals and the environment. Using them often starts a vicious circle of increasing dose and frequency of treatments since the pest organisms build up resistance against the chemical compound. Nature provides solutions to keep pests in balance with the rest of eco-system. Most pest organisms have one or more natural enemies, these beneficial insects enable us to control a pest in it's eco-system even artificial ones like vivariums, terrariums, aviaries etc. Natural enemies, provide a fully organic solution without the risks and disadvantages caused by pesticides. A snake mite infestation can be controlled by introducing natural enemies (predatory mites) in the eco-system of the reptile.

The name for mite infestations is (Acariasis.) The snake mite (Ophionyssus natricis) are one of the biggest killers of reptiles in captivity, which is a real tragedy. Mite infestations can be difficult to control, let alone eradicate. The mites feed from their host’s blood supply removing blood and vital nutrients leaving the reptile agitated and anaemic. This makes the reptile far more susceptible to illness, and as the parasites also introduce diseases into the snakes blood supply while feeding, the snake will eventually die. Parasites are conventionally controlled with toxic pesticides such as neonicotinoids and phyretroids, these chemicals however have side effects for the reptiles and the parasite builds resistance against it over time. TAURRUS is a revolutionary natural way to control parasitic mites in the habitat of the reptile. The Taurrus predatory mites feed on various reptile parasites such as the O. natricis Snake Mite. Taurrus does not feed on reptiles or mammals and is 100% safe for you, your pet and the environment.

100% Natural Taurrus predatory mites are 100% safe for animals and humans, they only feed on parasites and die after having done their job. Taurrus is very effective at killing all stages of reptile mites including their eggs, larvae and adults. Tests have shown a kill rate of 95% within 10 days. Applying is simple and hassle free, no handling of the animal is needed. Once the predators are released in the rack or terrarium they will start foraging for prey.
